PETER, WENDY & HOOK - Visit Great Ormond Street Hospital

01 April 2005

Wednesday 30th March saw three special visitors to Great Ormand Street Hospital: Peter Pan, Wendy and Captain Hook! Photographer Brian Slater was on hand to capture the visit.

Peter Pan (Christian Broomhall), Wendy (Keiko Amemori) and Captain Hook (David Paul Kierce) arrive at Great Ormand Street Hospital.

It is exactly 100 years after J.M Barrie wrote his classic novel Peter Pan. Throughout his life he was a prominent supporter of Great Ormond Street Hospital and in April 1929 he bequeathed all the rights from Peter Pan to the hospital, which continues to receive royalties from all books, products and performances. 2% of all Northern Ballet Theatre’s box office takings will go directly to the hospital.

Great Ormond Street Hospital treats more than 90,000 children each year - children who are suffering from the rarest, most complex and often life-threatening conditions. Peter Pan, Wendy and Captain Hook presented them with tiaras, wands and other gifts! Staff and children were also been invited to attend a performance of Peter Pan during the company’s London season.

David Nixon, Artistic Director of Northern Ballet Theatre said: “Peter Pan is such a family orientated story, and J.M Barrie had such a commitment to children and Great Ormond Street Hospital that it seemed only natural that we would bring the main characters from this timeless story to the hospital Barrie cared about so much.”

Martin Sheehan, Peter Pan Development Manager at Great Ormond Street Hospital Children’s Charity commented, “Whilst Northern Ballet Theatre’s production will help us raise vital money towards the hospital’s major redevelopment project, the children are bound to be entranced by the dancers: these visits always bring out the biggest smiles on our patients’ faces.”
