Easter
Course 2007
“Fun,
exciting and challenging.”
Particpant
This
year’s Easter Course was an exciting new parnership
for Northern Ballet Theatre as we teamed up with Theatre Company
Blah Blah Blah to deliver a course combining dance and drama.
Taking the book ‘The king Must Die’ by Mary Renault
as inspiration for the course, participants explored the story
and devised dance and drama pieces to recreate the story in
a performance to family and friends.
The participants were split into two age groups and each group
worked with a dance artist from NBT and theatre practitioners
from the Blahs. The groups devised bull dances, tableaux and
short drama sequences to tell the story of the bull dancers
from ancient Crete, from their recruitment, through their
training and to their successful bull dance.
Dance
students had the opportunity to improve their dance skills
through daily technique classes, and developed their storytelling
skills enabling them to recreate the story in a theatrical
way. The performance at the end of the week was performed
in the round, and involved the audience in the action, as
they became audience members in the bullring.
The
highly original performance was full of energy and enthusiasm,
and reflected the teamwork and all the hard work the participants
had put into it. |
