Nacho Duato's Jardi Tancat is a wonderfully
arresting and spirited piece of expressive dance, set to traditional
Spanish folk songs sung by one of Spain's most popular and
successful recording artists, the award-winning Maria Del
Mar Bonet.
Gifted young British choreographer, Cathy Marston
has been commissioned by David Nixon to create this new work,
entitled Dividing Silence. Taking inspiration from Bohuslav
Martinu's Concerto for double string orchestra, piano and
timpani, she has created a dynamic and intense ballet for
twelve dancers, focusing on the syncopated shifts of the score.
American Val Caniparoli's Lambarena has proved
a world-wide hit since it was created for San Francisco Ballet
in 1995. This uplifting work masterfully blends classical
ballet with authentic African dance movement in an exuberant
festival of movement to music which combines traditional African
music with compositions by Johann Sebastian Bach.
