NEVERLAND
COMES TO LONDON
18 March 2005.
Peter
Pan, the story of the boy who never
grew up has been given a spectacular ballet makeover by Northern
Ballet Theatre - winner of the Audience Award at the National
Dance Awards 2004.
Following a hugely successful World
Première in Northern Ballet Theatre’s hometown
of Leeds, the company brings Peter
Pan to Sadler’s Wells,
London from Thursday 31 March – Sunday 10 April 2005.
The 2005 London season is sponsored by The Manchester Airports
Group.
Having celebrated its centenary in
December 2004, J.M Barrie’s Peter
Pan continues to fascinate children
and adults alike with its tale of Tinker Bell, the Lost Boys,
pirates, fairy dust, crocodiles and of course Captain Hook.
Northern Ballet Theatre’s new production includes all
the exciting elements of this enchanting story along with
magical puppets, mermaids and death defying feats of flying.
“It has something
for everyone: flying, fights, suspense, nostalgia
and even a whiff of romance … this Peter Pan is a
treat for young and old.” Independent
on Sunday
The production is directed and choreographed
by Artistic Director David Nixon, voted Director of the Year
2003 by readers of Dance Europe magazine, with co-direction
by regular Northern Ballet Theatre dramaturge, Patricia Doyle.
Olivier award-winning designer Peter Mumford creates the sets
and lighting, bringing the Darling family home, Captain Hook’s
pirate ship and the magical landscape of Neverland to life.
Oscar-winning composer Stephen Warbeck (Shakespeare in Love)
writes his first ever ballet score for Peter
Pan, completing this dazzling and
accomplished creative team.
David Nixon explained: “Peter
Pan, a story Barrie wrote for
children, has made a far-reaching impact on the world - revealing
and appealing to the child in all of us. The story of Peter
Pan appeals as much to boys as to girls - making it the perfect
entertainment for the entire family and an ideal vehicle to
showcase the talents of both our male and female dancers.
Peter
Pan is an adventure in every
sense of the word and I am truly humbled by the team of experts
that we have managed to entice along to join us on this exciting
journey.”
Christian
Broomhall, Junior Principal Artist and
Soloist, Simon
Kidd, share the title role of Peter
Pan. These two rising stars along
with other Northern Ballet Theatre dancers have learnt how
to fly with theatre flying experts, Flying by Foy.
“…Christian Broomhall
was born to be Pan: mercurial, Puckish, he
mastered the wires and flew into our hearts.” The
Guardian
Northern Ballet Theatre’s production
of Peter
Pan has been made possible by the
generosity of individual donor, David Lloyd and performed
by kind permission
of Great Ormond Street Hospital Children’s Charity.
